Understanding the 'Cape Doctor' Wind

Cape Peninsula weather is governed by South Atlantic ocean currents. Summer (November to March) offers warm dry weather, but is famous for the 'Cape Doctor'—a powerful south-easterly wind blowing over 60 km/h across sea cliffs. Always pack a wind-resistant jacket even on clear hot days.

Winter (May to August) brings rainy Atlantic fronts, transforming the fynbos into vibrant green landscapes. Winter is also peak whale-watching season, as Southern Right Whales nurse calves in False Bay coves.
